Yes, yes. I know it’s been a while since the last one of these but it’s here now. Time to give the woeful wrestling figures arena a sweep and welcome its newest signing. It’s only Buff Bagwell!
Hailing from the wonderful wasteland that was latter WCW figures, Buff Daddy comes packing a lot of fun and frolics in a surprisingly tiny package. I mean tiny, too. Bagwell is weirdly smaller than most of his line-mates and comes with the feeling that he is from another toy line entirely. He barely scales with anything except the old WWF Hasbro’s. Despite sharing a few parts, Vampiro comes in taller than Buff leaving Bagwell looking like the 1997 WWF Midget version of himself. Buff Step-Daddy, maybe?
Despite his small stature, Buff does come with some great articulation meaning that there are very few positions that Buff can’t perform, with the exception of standing at the back of group photos. And also despite having a somewhat indistinct face sculpt, he certainly looks the part. He even comes equipped with an uppercut punch feature too.
Buff makes himself noteworthy however with his accessories that elevate him to true wacky infamy. Top hats are something criminally underrepresented in plastic toys but Buff comes bearing gifts in his signature entrance attire, emblazoned with his own face, no less. That alone would be great but it gets better. Push a little latch on the brim and BEHOLD! MISSILE FIRING ACTION! Yes, the top of the hat flies into the air with a shiny paper tail attached for added sparkle. What a showman.
As if all that wasn’t enough, this review becomes a triple threat. Buff brings along a friend in the form of Ric Flair! Well, kind of. This is a puny training dummy with stick limbs and bulbous torso bears more than a passing resemblance to the Nature Boy. He even collapses into pieces when stuck, too but the most interesting aspect of lil Naitch is his t-shirt with “The Federation” scrawled on it. It seems that the Monday Night War even spread to merchandise too.
Is Buff a poor figure? Aside from his diminutive stature, no. He’s perfectly fine but what tips him into review worthy territory is his accessories that are a ton of fun and make for a fine addition to my collection of crap.
